During this trying time Sangre de Cristo Center for Youth (SCCY) is blessed to be able to help the families and the youth of Huerfano County. COVID-19 has hindered our in-person services, as we have abided by all the rules and regulations of the Huerfano/Las Animas County Health Department.
Many of our consistent funders have decided to suspend funding until the 2021-22 grant cycle.
We now provide Positive Youth Development activities remotely. Many of the youth who attend programming have never been out of Huerfano County, so such adventures provide them with the opportunity to view the world through different eyes, and to broaden their horizons.
In order to continue to provide such opportunities for the youth, general funding is necessary. Such funding will allow SCCY to continue to provide opportunities that enhance the lives of the youth and to help them realize their authentic selves.
Our hope is that you will see the value of SCCY. We need to keep the Center open and general funding will help pay the necessary daily expenses we incur on a monthly basis so that the youth of the county can continue to receive services and programming. Although programming is being provided differently in our world today, we continue to strive to meet the needs of the youth of Huerfano County.
The overall framework of the proposed programming at the Center is to continue to provide learning opportunities through community-based activities. The activities to be used to promote success are college tours, job shadowing, and field trips. We will resume these efforts when in-person activities are allowed to happen.
